What is Get Out?
Physicians Plus wants kids and families to lead active lifestyles, and our GO! Get Out campaign is how we're helping to fight childhood obesity in our community.
GO! features four seasonal events to give kids 12 and under a chance to win great rewards, like a water park resort getaway for the whole family, just for getting outside and being active.
The seasonal events are reminders that it's important to get outside and be active all year long. Held at fun Madison-area locales, all GO! Get Out events are based on active participation that gets kids moving. We'll give away a variety of cool prizes at each one, and kids are automatically entered to win by showing up and taking part.
Why Get Out?
Encouraging our children to lead active lifestyles is one of the most important ways we can fight childhood obesity.
The prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity has more than tripled in the last 20 years, with now approximately 30% of children overweight and 15% obese.
Overweight children with at least one overweight or obese parent are reported to have a 79% likelihood of overweight persisting into adulthood.
And more than 30 medical conditions are associated with obesity, having a health care cost in the U.S. estimated to be $102.2 billion.
The Department of Health and Human Services recommends that children and adolescents participate in at least 60 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity most days of the week, preferably daily.
It was a great day for the Green & Gold Training Camp. Thanks to everyone for getting out and joining us at the Henry Vilas Zoo!
